After 26 Years, Is This the Democracy We Prayed For? – Pastor Adewale Giwa

Pastor Adewale Giwa reflects on Nigeria’s journey since the return of democracy, calling believers to seek God’s intervention as the nation grapples with poverty, poor leadership, and broken promises.

As Nigeria marks 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, Pastor Adewale Giwa of The Second Coming of Christ Ministry raises a heartfelt concern: Can we truly say there’s a difference between military rule and what we now call democracy?

In a message shared on Democracy Day, Pastor Giwa didn’t mince words. “Those who claimed to fight for democracy,” he said, “are now the very ones exploiting it for selfish gain.” According to him, they didn’t open the door to freedom; they opened it to greed.

Looking back over the years, he asks a painful question many Nigerians can relate to: Are we better off? The economy is shaky, poverty is on the rise, and the promises of democracy often feel like distant dreams.

But this isn’t just a political lament; it’s a spiritual wake-up call. Pastor Giwa urges us to cry out to God for deliverance from the grip of self-serving leaders. “Only God can rescue Nigeria now,” he reminds us.

He challenges us, especially those in leadership, to reflect deeply:

Are we leading with transparency?

Will our legacy speak of justice, compassion, and real impact?

Have we truly cared for the least among us?

In times like these, the words of Scripture call us to stand in the gap. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray…” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

It’s not just about governance anymore; it’s about the soul of a nation.
And perhaps the greatest question of all is this: Are we ready to let God lead where men have failed?
