Pope Leo urges global leaders to choose peace over war amid U.S. strikes on Iran, warning of an “irreparable abyss” if violence continues.

Pope Leo has made a heartfelt plea to the global community to halt the spread of war, warning that escalating violence could lead to an “irreparable abyss.”
Speaking to pilgrims during his Sunday prayer, the Pope emphasized the urgent need for diplomacy over destruction.
“Every nation has a moral duty to stop this tragedy before it’s too late,” he said. “No military victory can ever outweigh the tears of mothers, the fear in children’s eyes, or a future lost to violence. Let the world choose peace over bloodshed.”
His passionate appeal comes on the heels of a major escalation: U.S. forces launched strikes on three of Iran’s nuclear sites overnight, deepening the already tense Middle East conflict and joining forces with Israeli military actions. In response, Iran vowed to defend itself.
Pope Leo also reminded the world not to forget the ongoing suffering in Israel and Palestine—especially in Gaza—where civilians continue to face dire humanitarian conditions.
“In this dramatic scenario, let us not overlook the daily anguish of the people,” the Pope added. “Now more than ever, they need humanitarian support and global compassion.”
As tensions climb, Pope Leo’s message echoes the call of faith and conscience: choose peace before it’s too late.
