Is Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Ready For Politics?

There seems to be something new going on in the political realm in Nigeria.  The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Nigeria’s most popular Pentecostal church where Yemi Osinbajo was a pastor, issued a Feb. 28, 2022, memo, which came to few days ago, that hints at a massive, ground-up political operation to help its members win political offices in Nigeria.

RCCG been one of the biggest churches in the world, openly ready to support anyone in the Church who wants to go into politic, the question that comes to mind is this: are Christians ready for this? RCCG alone will not make any meaningful impact without other churches, how do they plan to pull Christians from the other big churches to do the same?

This is a wake up call to the church, and we much be ready to play the game of politics and to win. It is time for the church to sit up and do as the Apostles did in Acts 6:3 and also Exodus 18:21

Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business;

Is this a Good Move?

I don’t think anything is wrong with this move. Other churches like Winners, House of Refuge, Christ Embassy, Mountain of  Fire and so on should form the such units. The church is now waking up to it’s role and obligations to its members. Whether it was done to boost support for Osinbajo or not, what RCCG is doing is very normal and appropriate. It is a very good agent for political socialization.
