Senior Pastor of ‘The Second Coming of Christ Ministry’, Adewale Giwa, has taken a bold stand against what he describes as the commercialization of the Church by today’s religious leaders.
Speaking during a Sunday service in Akure, Ondo State, Pastor Giwa lamented that many churches have drifted away from their true purpose, becoming places of business rather than houses of prayer.
Quoting Mark 11:17, he said, “Jesus declared, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but today, it has sadly become a den of robbers.”
Pastor Giwa pointed to the rise of prosperity-driven messages and the constant demand for financial donations in churches. “We now preach more about wealth than repentance. People are told that if they give N5,000 today, they’ll receive one million tomorrow. That’s not the gospel,” he stated.
He criticized religious leaders who, instead of leading souls to salvation, focus on promoting miracles and material breakthroughs. “How many are truly preaching redemption today?” he asked.
Giwa urged Christians to return to the core of the faith, prayer, repentance, and a genuine relationship with God. “You want your prayers answered? Forsake your sins, turn to God, and ask Him sincerely. He’s our Father, and He listens,” he added.
