Big Business, Small Salaries: When Greed Overshadows Justice

Let the Church Not Be Silent: Speaking Up for the Underpaid

Jerry Durojaiye, a communications strategist and media personnel, tweeted about his experience at the AP Fuel Station in Maitama, Abuja, on June 1, 2025.
In his post, he explained how surprised and alarmed he was after engaging one of the fuel attendants to tell him why they were all murmuring while at work. He found out they were being paid a monthly salary of 10,000 naira.
The staff were murmuring about how their salary increment protest to their management had been rejected.

Jerry Durojaiye then proceeded to ask about the whereabouts of the Nigerian Labour Congress when they were needed, also he called the attention of Yele Sowore and Adeyanjudeji to focus on these kinds of issues instead, and not solely on the presidency.

He expressed how sad he felt for the staff, and he prayed that they would get justice as soon as possible.

When Christians Remain Silent, Injustice Grows Loud

This isn’t just a political issue, it’s a Kingdom issue. Our faith isn’t complete without action. James 2:15–16 says, “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?”

We shouldn’t be quiet when others are crushed by the weight of greed and indifference. If we, the Church, don’t speak up for the underpaid, who will?

Let Righteousness Be Our Voice

This is not just about salary, it’s about human dignity, living wages, and compassion over profit. And it’s time for the Church, not just the institution, but you and me,to rise with courage and clarity.

If you’re a business owner, pay fairly. If you’re in leadership, advocate. If you’re a believer with influence, use your voice to amplify the unheard.

  • Pray for workers who are exploited.

  • Speak up in your circles and on social media.

  • Hold businesses accountable.

  • Support policies and reforms that protect laborers.

  • And above all, live out the Gospel by walking justly, loving mercy, and standing up for the vulnerable -Micah 6:8.

“The Church must not only preach Christ—we must embody Him”.
